Leading = Service
January 12, 2025
Being a leader is so much more than a title or position. Leadership is a service mindset. If you are not willing to serve, you are not ready to lead.
When we think of school leaders, we often think of the manager or boss of the school. They make the rules and make sure we all follow them. We also think about how we would do things differently if we were in charge. We would put people first. We would listen more. We would organize more effectively, ensure higher standards, communicate better, and treat everyone the same...
Each person has their own story of how they were called to leadership. Some of you may be leading now - and some of you are looking to move into a leadership position. We can each share all the things that have gone right with our journey - the things that make us marketable and accepted. It takes a bit more vulnerability to look back at our failures and setbacks. Facing these areas are how we grow.
Being vulnerable is very difficult for me. I hope that sharing my struggles will help you - and help me to grow, as well. The goal with this blog is to help you on your journey to biblical leadership. By sharing with you my desire to lead in multiple positions - and my failures and trials along the way, I hope you gain a greater sense of your purpose within your school community. Through this blog, I hope you will learn to appreciate doors that do not open, the word "no," and the growth opportunities that present themselves in strange ways.
My ultimate prayer with this blog is to help you with pride. It is what gets in my way more often than anything else. Most strong leaders face this same enemy. Together, we will focus on the strengths of others and how to build a team that shines collectively. The importance of humility will be our first lesson. I hope you will tune back in to hear several of the embarrassing ways that I have been humbled along this road to service. I look forward to meeting you here again!
